The Monster Walks – 1932 – United States
On a dark and stormy night, a young woman named Ruth returns to her family’s mansion for the reading of her father’s will. Ruth inherits her father’s fortune, upsetting the other potential heirs, including her uncle, her father’s housekeeper, and her father’s housekeeper’s son. The night after the reading, her father’s ape (named Yogi) escapes from his basement cell. Stalking through the mansion’s secret passages, he sneaks into Ruth’s room and tries to strangle her in her sleep. Or does he? In the predictable finale, it turns out that the ape is the housekeeper’s son in disguise. Trying to kill Ruth for her inheritance, he accidentally strangles his own mother to death.
