Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust – 2000 – Japan/United States

In the post-apocalyptic future, humans are hunted by vampires, werewolves, and mutants. In a frontier village, a vampire count kidnaps the mayor’s daughter. To rescue her, the mayor hires D, a half-vampire bounty hunter. D pursues the count across the country, followed by some tank-driving cyborg mercenaries known as the Marcus Brothers. The count intends to flee Earth in a spaceship, but D apprehends him. To D’s surprise, the mayor’s daughter is the count’s willing bride. Considering his melancholic life as a half-vampire outcast, D cannot accept the lovers’ relationship. A bloody duel ensues.

An amnesiac surgeon named Hirosuke is locked in a Tokyo insane asylum. After killing another inmate (a deranged monk) in self-defense, he escapes. Outside, Hirosuke encounters a circus magician with a mysterious connection to his forgotten past, but the magician gets murdered and Hirosuke is framed for it. Fleeing Tokyo, he reaches a seaside town where a wealthy local businessman named Genzaburo has just died. Hirosuke discovers that he is the dead man’s doppelganger, even down to the swastika scar on the bottom of his foot. Hirosuke impersonates Genzaburo, surprising everyone with his sudden resurrection. As he grows ensnared in Genzaburo’s life, he discovers that he is actually Genzaburo’s lost brother. He also learns of a mysterious island where his father lives in isolation. Hirosuke is forbidden by his family to go there, but goes anyway.

After barbarian raiders destroy his village, he sets out for revenge. Along the way, he befriends a falcon, a black tiger, and two super-cute ferrets called Kodo and Podo. With his sword, collapsible boomerang, and animal menagerie, he frees a city enslaved by an evil priest and finds true love.

He teams up with Kagero, a ninja woman who is obsessed with revenge against the Eight Devils. The two develop a romantic relationship until Kagero is killed.

The powers of this wondrous fountain are a little unclear, but Koura somehow intends to use it conquer Marabia. In route to the fountain, Sinbad sails treacherous waters, battles fantastic creatures, and solves ancient riddles.

Horror of Dracula (known as Dracula outside of the United States) is the third filmic adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula (1897). It is preceded by Universal Pictures’ Dracula (1931) and Nosferatu (1922), although Nosferatu was an unofficial adaptation which resulted in a lawsuit. Horror of Dracula was produced by Hammer Film Productions and features many Hammer regulars such as actors Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, director Terence Fisher, and writer Jimmy Sangster.

When the training is complete, the sadistic nobleman captures the thugs’ sons, and lets his son cripple each of them. All of this occurs in Crippled Avengers’ first five minutes.

After Earth is ravaged by an apocalyptic war, the surviving Oms (humans) are abducted by the Draags (aliens) and taken to another planet. The Draags are a race of blue-skinned giants who keep the Oms as pets. They believe the Oms are unintelligent animals and cruelly degrade them, until many Oms escape and go feral. The Oms reverse engineer the Draags’ advanced technology, and rebel against them.

After the Surf Nazis kill an African American man, his elderly mother, Mama Washington, escapes her nursing home to exact revenge. With a pistol and grenades, she kills all the Surf Nazis and rides off on her motorcycle laughing.
