The Fulton family moves constantly from town to town. The psychotic mother Martha cannot stop killing people, and her loyal family must continually hide the murders. Martha is a perpetually moody drunk with a sexual psychosis. She advises her teenage daughter, “Don’t talk to any boys at school. They only have one thing on their mind.” Yet she wears nothing but slinky nightgowns and tries to seduce everyone. The rest of the family (father, daughter, and grandmother) are earnest kindly people, who apparently stay with Martha out of love even as she emotionally and physically abuses them.

Chillers

Chillers – 1987 – United States

Chillers is an anthology horror film. This format was popularized by Trilogy of Terror (1975) and Creepshow (1982), although my favorite example is the strange and absurd The Willies (1990). The concept likely stems from EC Comics’ Tales from the Crypt comics, with which Chillers shares a certain ironic wit.

Beyond Evil – 1980 – United States

Beyond Evil stars hard-working John Saxon, whose near 200 acting credits are almost all genre flicks. God bless him. Director Herb Freed is just a footnote, but he worked on obscura such as Haunts (1977), Graduation Day (1981), and Survival Game (1987).
