After a millionaire dies, his heirs congregate at his mansion for the reading of his will. The will reveals that all the money is hidden in the mansion and the heirs must find it. The millionaire’s crooked lawyer hires thugs to kill the heirs so he will inherit everything. Also at the mansion is a mischievous ghost girl (with an invisible bikini), some dopey bikers, and a busload of teenage surfers who just want to have a good time.

A disparate group of people (including a biker, a hitchhiker, a lawyer, a socialite, and a womanizer) get lost in a foggy mountain valley. They arrive at an abandoned mansion next to a graveyard and decide to stay the night while the fog clears. Some of the people know each other and appear to be involved in a criminal business. The various characters bicker and have sex. Local legends suggest vampires once lived in the mansion, and before long, a creepy old woman and her disfigured chauffeur appear and begin killing people. In actuality, the old woman and the chauffeur are two of the stranded travelers in disguise. Their plot is to drive the others insane with fear to prevent some kind of business deal. Maybe. The plot is a little unclear.

On a dark and stormy night in Wales, travelers seek shelter in a spooky manor. The manor’s denizens are a family of kooky old folks. Their mysterious, threatening, and outrageous dialogue suggests misfortune will befall everyone in the house. It turns out that a deranged arsonist is locked in the attic. He escapes and tries to burn the place down, but falls down the stairs and dies during a struggle. Dawn comes and everyone is safe.

An astrology-obsessed millionaire dies, leaving an eccentric will. After personally insulting each heir, the will proclaims that they may receive an inheritance of between $1.50 and $500,000, with the exact amount to be revealed in two days. A caveat states that the millionaire’s body must be placed in a specially constructed observatory so he can watch the stars forever. If the dome is not built in two days, the amounts of the inheritances will be reversed. Those who would inherit the most would instead inherit the least and vice versa.

On a stormy night, an aging millionaire hosts a dinner party at his mansion. He announces to his gathered friends and family that each of them will inherit a million dollars. But when the millionaire’s estranged daughter arrives unexpectedly, the millionaire has a change of heart and gives all his money to her instead. Now denied of their inheritance, the partygoers are upset. The millionaire’s daughter is soon poisoned to death, and no one in the house is above suspicion. Shortly after, another woman arrives at the mansion also claiming to be the millionaire’s daughter. What the heck is going on here?

As a thunderstorm rages, a playwright and a theater producer are driving down a secluded road. Inevitably, their car stalls and they seek shelter in an old manor. Inside the manor, a cast of kooky characters is having a dinner party. There’s a beautiful girl and her forceful suitor, plus a psychiatrist and his deranged psychic patient. Mysteriously, the playwright knows these folks. Once dinner is served, the psychic becomes increasingly distraught. Apparently, today is the anniversary of her husband’s death. Soon spectral figures and phantom bloodstains manifest. At the climax of this eerie display, the manor’s electricity shuts off and the room plunges into darkness.

The Girl Who Dared is a mystery/horror flick evoking The Old Dark House (1932) and its many imitators: The Ghost Walks (1934), One Frightened Night (1935), The Rogues Tavern (1936), A Walking Nightmare (1942), One Body Too Many (1944), and others. On a stormy night, the disparate members of a wealthy dysfunctional family attend a ghost-hunting soiree at a secluded manor. No one knows who sent the mysterious invitations. Soon, phone lines are cut, transportation is sabotaged, and someone is knifed to death. An undercover insurance investigator infiltrates the party to locate some stolen radium. When an unidentified corpse materializes along with capsules of radium, the plot thickens and panic escalates.
