Meanwhile, signs suggest the manor is haunted. Whispers sound through the house’s system of “speaking tubes”, and Annette suddenly performs piano music she’s never heard. Afterward, she is possessed by the ghost of the invalid girl. As Annette grows increasingly ill, her loved ones sink into despair as they struggle ineffectually to save her. Diamond Ninja Force

Diamond Ninja Force – 1988 – Hong Kong

Diamond Ninja Force (a.k.a. Ghost Ninja) is bewildering Z-grade schlock. Hong Kong director Godfrey Ho made a career of chopping apart Thai, Chinese, and Filipino flicks and adding Western actors. His 121 directorial credits include the likes of Ninja Terminator (1985), Project Ninja Daredevils (1986), Ninja Hunt (1986), Ninja Fantasy (1986), Ninja Dragon (1986), Ninja Destroyer (1986), Bionic Ninja (1986), Ninja Operation: Licensed to Terminate (1987), Ninja Death Squad (1987), Empire of the Spiritual Ninja (1987), Ninja Knights Brothers of Blood (1988), Rage of Ninja (1988), Ninja Demon’s Massacre (1988), and Ninja Extreme Weapons (1988). That’s just the tip of the iceberg too. This maniac released 21 flicks in 1987 alone.

Beyond Evil

Beyond Evil – 1980 – United States

Beyond Evil stars hard-working John Saxon, whose near 200 acting credits are almost all genre flicks. God bless him. Director Herb Freed is just a footnote, but he worked on obscura such as Haunts (1977), Graduation Day (1981), and Survival Game (1987).

Terror-Creatures from the Grave – 1965 – Italy

The stupidly titled Terror-Creatures from the Grave is an Italian gothic shocker “inspired by Edgar Allen Poe”—whatever that means. Long ago, this was my first Barbara Steele flick and it’s still dear to me. Thankfully it’s damn fine cinema too.

Hillbillys in a Haunted House

Hillbillys in a Haunted House – 1967 – United States

Don’t be fooled horror fans. Disregard Lon Chaney Jr., Basil Rathbone, and John Carradine on the bill, Hillbillys in a Haunted House isn’t for us. The threesome’s face time clocks a quarter of what’s spent on country crooners who sing for any reason. A sequel to Las Vegas Hillbillys, usually I wouldn’t bother, but the premise is winning: Country singers escape a storm in a haunted house, also home to Madam Wong’s international spy ring plus a killer ape. But mystery, adventure, and horror are the least of this musical comedy’s cares.
