TeleVoid – 1997 – United States

TeleVoid is an anthology of psychedelic CGI and stop motion animations set to groovy electronic music. It is a montage of many tiny bits from different animations which are cleverly edited together. The effect is like watching a disorienting and mesmerizing feature length music video. The animations come from disparate sources (including the video game Lands of Lore 2), but mostly seem to be the work of students at various universities.

One sequence depicts a commando operation in space. Another is a descent into an Egyptian pyramid. And yet another combines images of flying saucers, jellyfish, and mandalas in a way that reminds me of the paintings of Paul Laffoley. In my favorite segment, Sir Mix-A-Lot raps the soundtrack and delivers the best bars he ever has. To give TeleVoid some coherency, a plot is grafted on where a skeleton named Skully watches an evil hypnotic television program.

Rating: 6/10 Shrunken Heads. There are some spaceships that look exactly like the snowspeeders from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Watch closely, they only appear for a few seconds.
